Game #13-Los Angeles Kings
Los Angeles Kings vs. Nashville Predators
Staples Center
November 15, 2008
This has been a rough couple of years as a LA Kings fan. I am devoted, watched the boys since I was about 5… motivated by a crazy uncle whom I have no idea why he got interested in the sport and then brought up by a mother that found the same passion as her younger brother for this team. Well 2008-2009 has been another crappy year, but the Kings are showing progress. I really wanted to see Drew Doughty, Jack Johnson, Anze Kopitar, Dustin Brown and Alexander Frolov. We have a young talented team and when they put it together they can beat anyone…just not tonight. This was a fairly boring game, no fights, no goals until the 3rd period. The Preds struck first but the Kings quickly answered. Then the 3rd period breakdown the Kings have been notorious for this season hit again, with about 2 minutes left in the game LaBarbara let a goal in and then the Predators topped it off with an open net goal to seal the deal, 3-1. The only highlight of the game was that the tickets were free because of a long time swimming friend, Gretchen Ballard, whom I have known for about 25 years became a Kings fan and had some extras. So take the good with the bad…good to see my team, good that it was free, good to go with Keli to a game, bad that they sucked again!
Notes on the arena: I mentioned most of the notable stuff in the Lakers blog, but I can add a couple Kings specifics: There is a cool statue of Wayne Gretzky on the outside of the Staples Center entrance, inside there are banners of HOF Kings whose numbers are retired such as Gretzky, Luc Robitaille, Roggie Vachon and Dave Taylor. Also, just added outside of Staples is my star which states "Chris Costales Kings fan for life".
