Game #23-Baltimore Orioles
Baltimore Orioles vs Boston Redsox
Camdem Yards
September 19, 2009
Another crazy work trip to Gaithersburg, MD for training and it was perfect timing because myself and my co-worker Deon Chen were able to hit up the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Redskins and Washington Nationals all in one week. Today’s game was a bit tiring because we left San Diego at 8:30 this morning, flew to the east coast, got the car, and headed directly to the stadium. Camdem Yards is right next to the Baltimore Ravens stadium in the heart of downtown and it is a beautiful place to watch a game. The funny thing is, I thought I was going to see an Orioles game…turns out I was wrong. Even though we were in MD about 95% of the 30,000 or so fans were Sox fans. Even more weird, a bachelorette party sat in front of us. Yeah a group of girls actually came from all over the east coast (Virginia, Boston, North Carolina, and New York) to see a baseball game for a bride to be??? WTF!!! They were very friendly but I could think of a thousands places my female friends would rather be than a ball park. Anyway, as for the game it was pretty close the first 8 innings. Three homeruns were hit and the crowd went nuts when Kevin Youklis (Yoooooooooo was screamed in the crowd every time he was up to bat) and David Ortiz were hitting. Deon and I decided to leave a bit early because we were a little jet lagged and the Orioles began to get whipped. The top of the 8th it was 4-4, by the end of the 8th they were down 7-4 and ended up losing 11-5. Great place to watch a game, just not when the Sox are in town.
Notes about the stadium: What can I say, Camdem Yards was the park that started it all. When you think of the old time feel stadiums, this is the one all sports fans think about. Yeah, yeah, I know. You can see the real thing at Fenway and Wrigley but when it comes to building a new park Camden was a first. Starting with the old warehouse in right field, the awesome scoreboard with old school clock, ivy covered center field wall...this place has it all. I recommend you all see an Orioles game if you are anywhere near the Baltimore area.
