Game #19-Washington Wizards (Zephyrs)
Washington Wizards vs Cleveland Cavaliers
Verizon Center
April 2, 2009
Another business trip, this time to Maryland. I was sent out to get training on how to be an efficient, understanding, and sympathetic supervisor…too bad I have had the position for 6 months already and learned all the techniques they were training on my own. But the good thing is that I was able to go to a Caps and Wizards game. First thing we noticed, and I say we because my partner in crime tonight is Deon Chen and fellow co-worker, is that the Wizards were called the Zephyrs tonight. Turns out after a little research the Wiz were originally called the Chicago Packers (named the packers because the owner had a packing company) back in 1961, in 62 they changed their name to the Zephyrs, and in 63 the team moved to Baltimore and called themselves the Bullets. Not sure why tonight the team reverted back to the Zephyrs but it was an interesting name and much better uniforms than the nasty gold team colors of today. Anyway Deon and I were really stoked about the game because of Lebron James. We have been talking about the game for months now and were ready for his famous pregame superstition of putting talcum powder in his hands, rubbing them together, and throwing the powder into the air. The place went nuts when he did this, actually the Verizon Center was already buzzing because his pregame warm-up consisted of some crazy dunks. As for the game it was awesome. It was a back and forth match, surprisingly the Wiz were keeping pace with the best team in the NBA. I got some great pictures and happened to catch a video of Lebron going up for a reverse ally-oop dunk. The arena gave a standing ovation! No other craziness ensued except for the fact that the Wizards were able to come away with a win 109-101. Very surprising, and another great experience.
Note on the arena: Please see my notes on the Verizon Center in the Washington Capitols blog.
