Game #12-Pheonix Coyotes

Phoenix Coyotes vs. Washington Capitols
Gojobbing.com Arena
October 23, 2008

What better way to start off a destination wedding weekend for one of my best friends than to go to a hockey game! The Gojobbing.com Arena was set in a beautiful mall and what made it even better…the parking was free! This is absolutely unheard of in Southern California where it costs upwards of $25 just to get to the game. Anyway the game was fairly unexciting, I was expecting Alexander Ovechkin to dominate the 'Yotes but this did not happen. Here are the best and worst highlights of the game: starting with the worst, there must have been only eight thousands fans at the game. Even my poor LA Kings who were just about last in the league in 2008 and not much better in 09 so far can pull in 14k. The other bad part of the game I blame on myself, I was in the bathroom for the first Phoenix goal and then Keli and I decided to take off 5 minutes early to hit the road because we had about 150 miles to cover to get to Sedona for the wedding...of course the 'Yotes scored just as we left the building. The best part of the game, a rocket of a slapshot from Ovechkin sailed wide of the Phoenix goal and the puck shattered into two pieces! I have been watching this great sport for over 20 years now and that was a first. Side note from this trip, coming back from the wedding we hit a bit of traffic...a truck tipped over and spilled 8000 gallons of diesel fuel on the only freeway heading to the airport...not good times...

Notes on the arena: The Gojobbing.com Arena is located in the middle of a mall/entertainment center which is great for pre and post game activities. Inside the arena is not very exciting or memorable. The team is still young though so hopefully over the next couple of years they will add some more features.
