Game #9-Los Angeles Galaxy

LA Galaxy vs. Columbus Crew
Home Depot Center
June 21, 2008

My first professional soccer game. I am up in LA for a two fold reason, one to watch the game (also went to the Dodgers yesterday) but also for DI’s birthday. So if you know DI, of course we started with a couple of beers in the parking lot…is there any other way to start a game? Heading into the Home Depot Center brought back some tough memories. A couple of years ago Keli and I drove here after a really long weekend in Vegas to watch the UCSB Gauchos take on the Indiana Hoosiers in the College Cup finals where we lost in shootouts. But today is a new day, the Galaxy have been playing well and there was a buzz in the air (I later found out it was not a buzz, it was all the soccer moms hormones going crazy because of David Beckham). The place was packed, about 27000 people in the stands, a crazy amount of fans for a regular season game in the MLS. It was a really good game, lots of crisp passing and close calls until the Crew put one in during the second half. The Galaxy couldn’t respond and lost 1-0. The take away from the game is that we had really good seats, the temperature was perfect, and it was good to get a soccer game under the belt. I look forward to coming back for many more games in the future.

Notes about the stadium: Home Depot is a perfect place to see a soccer game. I like the sloping field on the goal line, perfectly manicured pitch, and even though there is a half roof it feels really open for a great fan experience.
