Game #14-Denver Nuggets

Denver Nuggets vs. Charlotte Bobcats
Pepsi Center
January 30, 2009

After a long day of snowboarding at Breckenridge with DI, we met up with DG (he stayed back at the hotel to work, never even left to get food) to hit up the Nuggets game. The seats were pretty cool, lower level behind the backboard, close enough to really digest how tall those players are. I was excited to get some really good pictures throughout the game until I realized I brought my camera, but left the battery in the charger back at the hotel. Anyway the game was ok, Denver took a huge lead behind the efforts of Carmelo Anthony and Chauncy Billups…even the Birdman Chris Anderson had a crowd pleasing game headed by swatting the crap out of a shot in the 3rd quarter. But overall the game was well in hand by half and the Nugs won 110 to 99. There were several highlights at the game, but not in the game. First DI was the only person stopped at the door by security. I mean they must have let in a thousand people but they found one Mexican and it was all over. They did the pat down, then out came the wand metal detector. DG and I were laughing so hard because of the obvious racial profiling. Second was the Denver Mascot. The dude was nuts. On the Jumbotron a Charlotte fan had a sign “Go Charlotte Bobcats”. When they showed that on the screen the crowd booed…but the mascot bolted to the sideline, ran up the stairs, and then the maniac started climbing up the railing! He was hanging 15 feet off the ground with a huge mascot head. I have no clue how he could see what he was doing. He not only did this once, he climbed the next railing as well, then charged up the stairs and ripped the poster apart much to the fans satisfaction and applause. To top it off he took the fans hat and tossed to 40 feet down to the first level…damn funny. Finally a pair of dolled up girls were slowly walking around the court, one with gigantic bolt ons. We figured she was a player’s f-buddy or some old dudes pet, but whoever they were they definitely got attention making their way to their seats. The mascot followed them in a trance, the camera men put them on the jumbotron, but the funniest thing about the episode was that their seats were no where near the floor and it was obvious they just wanted to strut around for the attention…and they got it…

Notes on the arena: The Pepsi Center's most notable feature is the huge Pepsi sign hanging from the scoreboard. There are some other cool things to look at such as the giant statue hanging from the ceiling as you enter the arena, also outside of the Pepsi center you get a perfect view of Mile High Stadium and in the distance you can see the snow-capped mountains in the winter.
